The series explores Islamic religious thought in a multiperspective manner. It includes works from falsafa, kalam and the mystical traditions, allowing for different methodological approaches. Each publication follows its own focus and demonstrates the historical and systematic range of Islamic scholarship. The volumes show how varied modes of thinking about God, the world and the human being emerge and develop across time. This creates a framework in which the breadth of Islamic reflection becomes visible, whether philosophical, theological or spiritual.<\/p>\n

Appreciating the historical consideration of Falsafa – Arabic for “philosophy” – the question of how a genuine Islamic philosophy of religion is to be understood methodically and in terms of content in today’s scientific discourse will be systematically pursued here. What is Islamic philosophy? What is Islamic about this philosophy? What is religion in Islam? What is the role of the philosopher in Islamic understanding? Ferdinand Ulrich (1931\u20132020) is \u2013 as Gerd Haeffner once said \u2013 a great unknown in both senses of the word: great as a Christian thinker, but all too little known in view of his philosophical rank. This series of publications on his work aims to remedy this desideratum and help Ulrich’s contribution to a metaphysics of being as love to become more widely known and received. The aim is to bring together conference proceedings and anthologies on specific topics in Ulrich’s philosophy, but also monographs, individual studies or qualification papers on this thought, which unites several things: it is part of the intensive discussion of Western philosophy, especially with Hegel and Heidegger, with Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, with Marx and with Freud. But it also builds bridges to depth psychology and the thinking of Eastern traditions. And it opens up deeper and clearer insights into Christian beliefs. For Ulrich, his philosophizing is so much more than just thinking, it is the human path to becoming an authentic human being.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand Ulrich, who is considered one of the \u201cmost important philosophers of religion of our century\u201d by the authors of a renowned reference book, left behind a series of important essays as well as numerous unpublished manuscripts in addition to the works previously available in book form, which are administered by the Ferdinand-Ulrich-Archive in Passau. These are compiled thematically in this edition of his works, which is planned to comprise at least eleven volumes, and made accessible to today’s readers by means of a detailed introduction, notes and index. In addition to further contributions on Ulrich’s ontological interpretation of the Bible (for example on the Book of Jonah or Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount) and his in-depth analyses of central texts by Meister Eckhart, Hegel and Nietzsche, smaller writings on anthropology, theological and spiritual questions are also published. His impetus for the renewal of philosophical thought in dialogue with Thomas Aquinas is particularly evident in his early writings and his doctoral thesis. A final index volume ensures the targeted use of this new edition of his works, which reveals the full richness, diversity and originality of Ferdinand Ulrich and makes him accessible to researchers as well as those interested in questions of philosophy or the Christian faith.<\/p>\n
